welcome
Dear Parents,
Welcome to First Grade! I want you to know it is a pleasure to have your child in my class. First grade is a new and exciting year for each child as part of the elementary.
I realize that teaching your child is a privilege as well as a great responsibility. As a first step to academic success I consider important to create a comfortable and embracing classroom, making your child feel at home and secure. I will do my best to encourage learning through a motivating and dynamic class experience. However, I can not do this alone. A close communication between home and school is very important. Both you and I need to work as collaborators in the learning process. Parents need to encourage and help their child with their homework assignments and studying for tests. I will keep you informed of his or her progress through a conference meeting if needed.
Finally, I have created this blog for your use and its goal is to be an extension of our classroom. Parents with this tool can participate of our activities and learning progress at home.
Sincerely,
Miss Jocelyn

In this blog you will find useful information that corresponds to different topics that we are learning.
In First Grade English, you will find words called " Amazing Words" that help student develop oral language. Also, we have "Popcorn Words" that students will learn to read and spell. These words should be practiced at home as well. The letters of the alphabet will be introduced within the first few weeks of school and a different story will be introduced each week.
In English, Science, Math and Social Studies topics, homework assignments, websites I recommend and tips will be posted.
Sincerely,
Miss Jocelyn

our book is published
The past month first grade worked hard on writing a collaborative story at a beautiful site called Storybird. First, they chose the illustrator that they most liked which was Pascal Campion. Later, they brainstormed ideas between all of them until the magical title was created. Then each child had a turn to sit at the classroom computer and choose a picture. After minutes of observing it and inspired by the art their ideas would become words. This story was written with true imagination by each of the students. Demonstrating that collaborative storytelling connects us as one voice. We feel proud of our book and hope you do too. Please write your comments after reading. Remember your words as parents are important for your child.

reading with DR.SEUess
We had a wonderful month reading many books by Dr. Seuss and sharing this experience with other students too. Reading has helped us with our fluency, comprehension and pronunciation. This is a start as life long readers at school and at home with your support.
We invite you to take a look at all the activities we did.
